Principal Engineer - Engineering Unit
 
  • $132,457.00 per annum + Super
  • Ongoing, Full Time Position
  • Geelong Location

We want to utilise your skills and experience to lead our dedicated team of engineers who support WorkSafe to continue to raise the bar in the prevention of injuries and illness.  You and the team will have a great breath of interaction and influence on, inspection program development, onsite inspections, policies, guidance and investigations.  This role will give you exposure across a range of engineering disciplines and challenges, matched with the reward of creating a safer environment for Victorian community.

About the role

The Principal Engineer provides team leadership, facilitating the maintenance and development of corporate knowledge in a range of engineering disciplines.  You will ensure that expertise in emerging hazards and developments in risk control are disseminated across WorkSafe.

  • You will manage and lead WorkSafe’s engineering team.
  • Coach and mentor team members in support of regional inspectors.
  • Resource planning and prioritisations to ensure the effective and efficient use of the team.
  • Provide support, as part of a multi-disciplinary project team, to the Programs Division for the development of inspection programs.
  • Support those areas in WorkSafe related to regulation development, policies, guidance and decision reviews.
  • Provide expert advice, conduct analysis and apply contemporary technical information to influence a reduction in the incidence and severity of work-related injury and disease.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in the identification of current and emerging risks in relation to plant and equipment for contribution into Health & Safety business planning.
  • Participate in investigations and prosecution, act as an expert witness, as required.

About you

  • You will have experience in leading and managing multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor technical personnel, including the development and implementation of tailored coaching plans
  • Demonstrated ability to train, develop and motivate employees in a team environment.
  • You will have a strong knowledge of engineering and experience in its application to systems, processes and procedures to reduce the incidence and severity of work-related injury and disease.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical information and data.
  • Understanding and prior application of project management methodologies, including the preparation of project plans and undertaking project evaluation.
