Principal Media Advisor

About the role

The Media Team assist with the development and implementation of communications strategies to promote Worksafe's reputation as a leader in workplace injury prevention and helping injured workers return to work.

As the Principal Media Advisor at WorkSafe, you will provide advice and support for proactive media campaigns and identify and manage risks and opportunities.  You will work closely with senior leaders on strategies to promote WorkSafe in the media and to manage media issues.  You will also: 

  • Assist the Media Manager with the development and implementation of WorkSafe's media strategy
  • Support Worksafe by proactively positioning media messages and managing external risks and impacts
  • Develop and implement media plans to support business initiatives, collaborating with teams across the organisation to achieve successful outcomes
  • Provide proactive and reactive tactical advice on media issues to senior leaders
  • Respond to emerging media issues, liaising with people across all levels of the organisation to ensure any information provide is accurate

About you

You are a professional Media Advisor ideally with experience working in a government organisation helping to identify and manage potential external risks.  You will have highly developed written and communication skills. You are a team orientated person who enjoys making an impact with your team.  You will also possess:

  • A thorough knowledge of the Victorian media landscape with extensive experience working with or in media organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage risks and opportunities in a media setting
  • Experience planning and proactively generating media coverage, either as a journalist or communications professional


Tertiary qualification in Journalism or similar.
