Director - Legislation, Policy & Information Services

About the role

The Director, Legislation, Policy & Information Services (LPIS) is responsible for leading a high performing team that develops and provides high quality policy and strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team and through them, the Board, line departments and WorkSafe Ministers.

Key accountabilities

  • The role will lead the LPIS Division to deliver legislative programs, to develop organisational policy to influence improvements in health and safety and compensation outcomes in Victoria. The role is also responsible for leading and influencing the national agenda and to issue guidance that supports legislation administered by WorkSafe.
  • The Director is expected to develop and implement business plans and objectives that align with WorkSafe’s strategies. In addition to this forward planning and strategic thinking, you will be required to think operationally and be responsible for the delivery of programs or project management.
  • Working in partnership across WorkSafe and the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic advice and support in the translation and application of policy in diverse areas related to health and safety and workers compensation.
  • You will also provide leadership in legislative, policy and statutory guidance development and provide authoritative and expert commercial, technical and/or policy advice which has a direct influence on program development.
  • Working independently as a specialist or working in an highly specialised commercial/professional managerial capacity, you will possess well developed technical expertise in legislative and policy development

About you

You are an experienced policy professional, with demonstrated experience in leading high performing and multi-disciplinary teams at an executive level. Your strong stakeholder engagement skills allow you to build trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, and engage with them in providing strategic advice and leadership in legislative, policy and statutory guidance matters.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience in developing policy
  • Extensive experience in developing and making legislation in Victoria
  • Extensive experience in developing modern guidance to enable compliance
  • Proven track record of effective, constructive and accountable leadership
  • Proven track record of delivering results on time and within budget
  • An ability to represent WorkSafe’s position at State and National forums.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in law or public policy desirable.
