About the role

Medical Panels has a critical role in the WorkCover dispute resolution process. An individually constituted Medical Panel supports the fair and timely resolution of medical disputes.  A panel of doctors are appointed by the Convenor from the list of 250 specialist medical practitioners.  The panel provide final and binding opinions and reasons in relation to medical questions referred under the Victorian Workers’ Compensation legislation and the Wrongs Act 1958.

Referrals can be made by the Accident Compensation Conciliation Service, the Courts, WorkCover agents, and self-insurers.

The office of the Convenor consists of the Convenor, three Deputy Convenors, and employees provided by WorkSafe Victoria to support the operations of the organisation.

Reporting to the Director, Medical Panels, the Program Officer, is responsible for the development and management of Medical Panel’s panel member recruitment, quality improvement framework, training services, performance evaluations and client satisfaction. This key leadership role will support the Convenor of Medical Panels and the Director to ensure that there are a sufficient number of Panel Members appointed to the list of Medical Practitioners by the Governor in Council to support the fair resolution of compensation and personal injury disputes.  Key accountabilities of this role include: 

  • Development and implementation of a Quality Improvement and Training Development Framework
  • Develop and implement processes for training and continuous professional development of Medical Panel members
  • Lead the medical practitioner recruitment process ensuring diversity and gender inclusion

About you

You will have significant experience in a government agency with a postgraduate tertiary qualification in professional vocational education, preferably at Masters Level.  You are highly organised with a proven capability of managing complex stakeholders.  You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in managing bulk recruitment processes, compliance checking and induction training
  • Significant experience in operational program management, including the development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the proven ability to engage and influence at senior levels across the organisation
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe
